EQUITATION DIVISIONS
MINI STIRRUP WALK-TROT DIVISION

In Memory of “Polished Brass”
An Achievement Award for this division will given to every 
rider who accumulates a total of 500 points. Once a rider 
wins 500 points in Mini Stirrup he or she will receive an 
“Achievement Award”. A rider may continue to show in the
Mini Stirrup Division, or may show in another division
where eligible without losing his or her Achievement Award
for the current year. Riders are cautioned to be careful when
advancing out of the Mini Stirrup division when interest is
shown in other High Score Programs or Divisions, or in
Finals-type horse shows. This is not a High Score Division.
Only Achievement Awards will be given to riders who reach
the Achievement level of 500 points. No Champion or
Reserve will be awarded, and no placement awards will be
given to riders who do not reach the Achievement level.
Open to riders 10 years of age or under as of the current
show year. Riders not to have shown over fences 2' or
higher at a USEF Recognized show. Riders may not cross-enter
into any other class or division at the same show where
they are required to canter. The division must include at
least three of the following classes:
  • Walk-Trot Equitation
  • Walk-Trot Pleasure
  • Walk-Trot Figure Eight
  • Cross Rails - 4 crossrails under 2’. Management is
    required to mark the judge’s card and course description with
    the specific specifications of this class as “cantering is NOT
    required.”
NOTE: Once a rider jumps 2' or higher in any USEF or
NJHSA Recognized Show, that rider is no longer eligible
for Mini Stirrup, Short Stirrup Equitation or Short
Stirrup Hunter.

SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION DIVISION

Open to riders 12 years of age or under as of the current
show year. Rider not to have not shown over fences 2' or
higher at a USEF Recognized show. Riders may not cross
enter into any division except Pleasure and Short Stirrup
Hunter. Classes to be offered should include:
  • Walk-Trot - To be shown both ways of the ring.
  • Walk-Trot-Canter - To be shown both ways of the
    ring, no more than 10 to canter at one time.
  • Over Fences - To be shown over a minimum of 4
    fences under 2'. May be crossrails.
NOTE: Once a rider jumps 2' or higher in any USEF or
NJHSA Recognized Show, that rider is no longer eligible
for Mini Stirrup, Short Stirrup Equitation or Short
Stirrup Hunter.

PRE-CHILDREN’S EQUITATION DIVISIONS
Separate High Score Awards will be given to the highest scoring 
rider on a horse and the highest scoring rider on a pony.

Open to junior riders who are still eligible as Limit Equitation
riders. Riders may not cross-enter at the same show into
the Children's Hunter, Pony Hunter or any class/division
where fences exceed 2'9". If the division is split a rider may
show in only one section at that show. Classes must include:
  • Flat Class (1) - To be shown at a walk, trot and canter
    both ways of the ring. No martingales.
  • Over Fences (minimum of 2) - To be shown over a
    minimum of 8 fences at 2'6" for horses, 2’ for ponies.

NJHSA JUNIOR BRONZE MEDAL CLASS

A single class open to Junior Riders who have not won 6 first
place ribbons (ref: General Eligibility Rule) as of December
1st of the current show year. To be shown over at least 8
fences at 3' with one change of direction and at least one
combination. Optional Tests 1-7.

NJHSA MINI MACLAY CLASS

A single class open to Junior Riders who have not won a first
place in a USEF Medal, ASPCA Maclay, Washington Intl.
Eq., or USET Medal Class prior to December 1st of the current
show year. To be shown over a course of at least 8
fences 3' to 3'3" with or without wings, including a change of
direction and at least one combination. A minimum of 12
riders, if available, to show on the flat. Flat phase to count
50%. Judged on hands, seat, guidance and control of the
horse. One rider per horse. Mount must stay the same
throughout the phases.

NJHSA GOLD MEDAL CLASS

A single class open to Junior Riders. To be shown over a
course of at least 8 fences at 3'6", which includes at least one
combination, an oxer and two changes of direction. One
rider per horse.

HUNTER DIVISIONS
SHORT STIRRUP HUNTER DIVISION

Stirrup Equitation (see above). Manners and suitability to
count. It is recommended that the classes be held in a ring
and must include:
  • Under Saddle(1) - To be shown at a walk, trot and
    canter both ways of the ring. No more than 10 to canter at
    one time. No martingales.
  • Over Fences (minimum of 2) - A minimum of 4
    fences under 2'. Fences may be crossrails.
NOTE: Once a rider jumps 2' or higher in any USEF or
NJHSA Recognized Show, that rider is no longer eligible
for Mini Stirrup, Short Stirrup Equitation or Short Stirrup
Hunter.

Open to all horses and ponies. To be shown in English tack
at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. To be
judged with emphasis on manners and suitability as well as
soundness and performance. Must back readily and stand
quietly. No more than 8 to hand gallop at the same time. No
martingales. A minimum of three classes to be offered.
Division may include Cross Country Pleasure that is to include
at least one of the following tests:
  • trot or canter over cavaletti
  • trot or lead over small jumps
  • back between two ground rails
The Pleasure Division may be split into horses and ponies as
two separate sections if entries warrant.

JUMPER DIVISIONS
  • All jumper classes (except Classics) will receive
    NJHSA Points regardless of the number of classes offered
    at the show.
  • No NJHSA Champion or Reserve Champion Bonus
    points will be awarded in any Jumper Division.
  • A Jumper Class need not be named exactly for points to count 
    towards its respective High Score Award, as long as said class 
    meets the height and spread requirements of the section (exc.
    Child/Adult points will awarded only in the specific High 
    Score for Child/Adult.)
